Database Recovery... Emergency!
Well I did it this morning. I was trying to convert one site from mivasql to mysql and ended up deleting another sites table structure in the process. Is there any chance for recovery? I dropped the tables using phpmyadmin thinking it was the database of the failed conversion when in fact it wasn't. I just switched servers and have no backup of the MySQL DB that I know of. Can't find the .sql file I used to rebuild the database on the new server.

I see a bunch of .frm, .MYI, and .MYD files on the server inside /var/lib/mysql/mm5db/ but am not sure if those can be used to recreate or help rebuild the DB. Contemplating jumping out the window here but it's on the first floor and probably wouldn't even mame me. Any help, experience or advice is more than greatly appreciated. At this point I would even hire someone to help.

Your host should have a backup available. You should always make a backup before doing any major changes like this.

What table was it? Have you tried recreating it using phpMyAdmin.

Re: Database Recovery... Emergency!
I am the host. The site I was working on was backed up with a .sql file, but the one I deleted was not. I mistakenly clicked the wrong database to wipe clean due to a similar naming structure. I am in the process of upgrading servers and the box these sites came from was just decommissioned 2 days ago (minor oversight). Yay. The old box had a copy of the .sql file for this site but, due to my obsessively **** nature, I deleted the .sql files from the new server for cleanliness (idiot) once the sites were transferred, rebuilt and tested. Upon further inspection, the .frm, .MYD and .MYI files I spoke of show up using the locate command but are not in the database folder under /var/lib/mysql/. Upon using the find command they don't show up either.

in a completely unauthorized and unrequested opinion...its probably time to change hosts<g>.

seriously, i've been developing e-commerce sites for over 10 years, been doing other web sites longer than that, and i'd never consider hosting my own business site.

I could be wrong, but you might be out of luck then. We perform complete server backups each night and maintain those on multiple backup servers, that is what I was referring to when I made reference to a host backup.
