Question - can the coupon mod be set up to do store credits? Store owner just converted from the Sebenza Ultimate Coupons which enabled them to create s coupon without having to configure an Order Minimum. By doing that they were able to allow the coupon to be used in the form of store credit. Then they would go in an reduce the value of the coupon the reflect the unused balance. Granted it's not really how coupons are meant to work - but it worked for them. Now they have lost that ability and they issue a lot of store credit.

You can use the points redemption feature in the Emporium Plus coupon module. If you use it that way you will probably not have an expiration set for the points system or tell the recipient that they have X amount of time to use the credit or at least keep their points account active.

I'm assuming the configuration docs have instructions on how to pre-load points into a coupon or customer account? Currently the store has a number of coupons that would have to be converted over to points. Then could the point system only be made available to these customers? In other words, I don't think the store owner is ready to have a storewide points system - just something to be used as store credits.

The only customers that would see the points button are those who have points and are logged in when they checkout.

To add points you go to the customer edit screen. At the top is a tab for the points. You click the tab and then the add button to add points. In my store, 20 points can be redeemed for a dollar off. So if I wanted to give $10 store credit I'd add 200 points. When they redeem it deducts the applicable points from the order total. If the order becomes 0.00, they don't need to pay. You set the points value in the module. If you use as a regular points system you also set the number of points based on order totals. So in my store I give 1 point per dollar spent. At redemption they can use 1 for $20 to reduce order. So they are getting 5% off a future order. This provides incentive to come back and shop. A month before they are set to expire, the customer gets an automated email telling them they are about to leave X dollars on the table. That becomes a reminder of the incentive. If you are going to only use as a store credit system, then you probably will not expire points.

I'll be very interested in seeing the Miva release. We do something similar that we call "Prepaid Training Vouchers" that started out life as the Sebenza Gift Certificate module but with lots of customization.

An engineering or utility company can purchase a big block of vouchers and distribute them to their employees. The company gets to take advantage of our store discounts (as much as 50%) and their employees get to pic-out any of the training courses that that they like and check-out without paying. It has been a very popular product line and the first order paid for all of the customization.
