Default Image Assignment!!! Wasting hours and hours for something seemingly so simple

Come up with a way to an image and assign it to multiple variants at the same time. Selling clothing and footwear we waste countless hours assigning the same image to variants. Yes I know it's possible to do via import but this really isn't faster most of the time. You end up having to ftp the image download the variants put in the image location for each color and then re-import.

I have posted this before but I figured I'd post again and see if I can get some support so this maybe gets moved up the priority list.

Ideally since you can narrow down variants via a search it would be nice if you could upload the variants then do a search. Batch image assignment currently allows this sort of search but it's still one at a time.

Anyone interested in writing a module for this? I might be very interested if it is possible while awaiting Miva's work on this.

    Over 250,000 variants and counting!

It's a high priority for us (as is variant management).

I have the same task to complete... I have FTPed 100,000 images and now I`m looking for a way to assign them all to all different variants. But where do I specify paths to my images in .csv file? (All the product variants were generated before I exported my products).

OK, I got a answer to myself from Miva Support person that might be useful:

You can import additional images via a flat file by using Image Types. To create/enable Image Types, log in to your admin and perform the following steps:

1.) Click on Products on the left.
2.) Click on the Image Types tab.
3.) Click on the Add Type(s) button on the right.
4.) Enter a Code and Description for the Image Type and click Add.

You will then need to activate Product Image Custom Fields by performing the following steps:

1.) Click Utilities on the bottom left.
2.) Check the box next to Product Image Custom Fields.
    3.) Click Update.

Now you will be able to export/import your products to/from a flat file using the Image Type field for additional images. The easiest way to do this would be to export your products to a flat file with the Image Type custom fields included. To do this, perform the following steps in your admin:

1.) Click the + next to Utilities.
2.) Click the + next to Export Data.
3.) Click on Export Products To Flat File.
4.) Check the box next to any/all Image Types you wish to use in the Custom Product Field Settings area.
5.) Click Export. (*Note: We recommend renaming the file, selecting Replace File, choose to Email File to yourself by selecting the text area option and entering your email address in the field before clicking Export.)

If done correctly, you should now see the Image Type columns in your flat file that you can use to assign additional images to each product.

Now try exporting 306,000 products every time you want to add an image to one set of product variants. Oh wait I could just create the products one by one in a spreadsheet so that I didn't have to download every product in the store---- Imagine how many variants come from one product that is say a men's pant available in 5 colors

Shouldn't be that hard so hopefully the will find an easier way

I did a little prep work before I did my exports. It was tedious but I assigned the Inventory Variant products to the Master products category. Then I would export by category. It helps narrow the field down.
