I'm going to extend business hours and need to take orders while away from the office. I don't want to carry a laptop but I need something to store a price list. Are there inexpensive pocket size devices capable of downloading a few thousand product codes and prices from my pc? It doesn't need any other features or capabilities. Thanks.

If you have Sprint or Verizon, (possibly other carriers that offer PDA's) get the Trio!

I'm VERY happy with mine. With the Palm OS, there are tons of apps you can use. It comes with Documents To-Go which allows me to use Excel, Word, PowerPoint and read PDFs.

I can also store, save and send them from the PDA too.

Great little device...and a pretty good cell phone too!

Thanks Vic, I do use Verizon. It makes sense to replace the phone and carry one device instead of two. I gotta say though, it might be overkill. My ten dollar samsung has a lot of features I don't use.:)

I thought that too when I bought mine...but Sprint was having a huge sale around Christmas plus a $50 rebate from Palm. Made it 1/2 price pretty much. Bought 2, one for me, one for my business partner.

I'm finding it useful in quite a few situations. I dont regret the purchase at all. I almost no longer need to carry a laptop with me unless I know I'm going to need access to a full PC.

Now there's a thought...maybe I would never need to buy a laptop. Thanks for the input.

make sure you get a good head set to use with it...would be hard to constantly pull the phone away from your ear to check prices<G>.

The Trio is bluetooth capable...a good bluetooth network adapter (to network to your PC) and a bluetooth wireless earbud is all you need :)

If you just need to store data, then something like a 2 Gig USB storage device could do the trick. They are very cheap now

I've got a 1GB SDRAM card in my Treo.

Here's a few other MUSTS if you're running a Treo:

VoiceSignal - dial numbers from your directory by speech, with NO training (meaning you don't have to go through the entire listing and speak each name to save it). You can use Blue Tooth, or a cabled headset - I get the $10 ones by Sony and they work perfect (I wreck them every few months).

Data Plan - you're cell bill will go up. You need a data plan with a Treo - I think it's around $40 a month

There's another device Verizon has (can't remember the name) that's similar that I know some guys run SSH, etc. through it as well, but the Treo should provide everything you need.

Choose wisely, there's the 650 (PalmOS) and the 700 (currently Windows only). I'm waiting for the 700 PalmOS.

I've even found SSH and FTP programs for the Treo. I can access my servers while on the road. Cant do a lot from a 3.5" screen with 6px type, but it works :D

Voice dialing is nice, but I've found the voice recognition is very sensitive and often looks up wrong people - especially if you're somewhere with a lot of background noise or its windy. Creating one key shortcuts is the way to go.

I absolutely love mine. Dont know how I survived with out it prior!

And of course, you have to get Ringo. The MP3 player/Ringer assigning. Set MP3s as ringers for your friends!

Oh and the built in 1.3 MegaPixel digital cam/camcorder.
