How user friendly is Scott's mailing list? Is it built for "dummies"? Any bugs?
Please share your experiences with it.

Works well, it has a lot of options though so it does require some time to be spent getting acquainted with it. How many addresses do you have? I've found that it can have some issues in the 10,000+ range.

So far its under that number.

My main concern is usability.

Can I do the following:
1. Paste addresses as CSV file into Scott's.
2. Send the email.

Or is there more to it.

Scot's Mailing List (http://www.designextend.com/page/miva/PROD/scotmail) is awesome, and I've seen many store owners switch to it. It boasts many features not offered by other pograms, and the developer is always working on improvements.

Yes, the usability does need some streamlining - many users find they have to read through the help files to be certain what specific functions do, however, Scot has been working on requests to make it easier for even the greenest of users to understand all its features.

I highly recommend the program, though, because the ability alone to send both HTML/Text messaging and maintain multiple lists simultaneously is well worth the cost.

I have also seen 1 or 2 reports from users with sending problems with 10,000+ addresses but other then those reports its pretty solid.

What kind of problems are people having at +10k? And is that total subscribers or is that a per list number? We may be looking at an easier way to manage our newsletters and we fall in to that range.

The issues with mailing 10K or more isn't a limitation of the software, but more likely the server. However, if you've got a mailing list larger than that, it's likely going to take time to send them. On most servers you need to send in batches of 20 or less (I shoot for 10), otherwise mail can get backed up, and on a shared server environment it can slow down the entire server.

Some hosts have restrictions set on this, so it's not so much an issue of how many email addresses there are, but rather how many you're trying to shoot out at a time. They're not all going to go out in one shot, so even on a 5k list, the send could take even a few hours.

Oh, if that's the only limitation, I'm' used to that. Currently it takes a couple hours to send ours out. I'm more interested in a better way to manage the lists and multi part e-mails would be very nice.
Thanks.

I hate help files

... And I hate copying and pasting responses directly from help files.

We primarily see issues with major e-mail providers (yahoo.com, etc) recognising a large volume of messages with similar content and rate limiting the messages, which tends to back things up on our mail servers. This is especially true if your mailing list has a large number of invalid addresses, as most larger e-mail providers will start temporarily blacklisting after just a few invalid addresses.

Always be sure to prune your lists and make sure you are using valid addresses. It's easy to get blacklisted these days from any number of sources.
