Merchants: Advice on buying, inventory control, etc.?

I'm considering launching a new store, but I'd be doing one thing I haven't done before: be the guy who handles buying.

While I'm sure many things regarding buying, inventory control, and inventory turn are market-, store-, and product-specific, can anybody recommend resources (sites, newsletters, forums, books, etc.) that would help me wrap my head around general principles?

Well, the best advice I could give would be, first, check out the website http://www.inventoryops.com, then I would strongly consider Fishbowl Inventory, especially if you use QuickBooks, or plan to in the future. You can check their site at www.fishbowlinventory.com, but also look at them through the QB site. Unless you are a Walmart or a lemonade stand, they're probably a great fit for everything in between.
