Anyone figure out how to capture a customer telephone number at checkout? Google sent me a link on how to accomplish this (looks like a lot of work) but it should be something already built in to the Miva Module. Thoughts?

Thanks,
Mike

The customer phone number is already one of the fields in MIVA's checkout. Look under Customer Fields and check to see if you made that optional.

That does not help me with the Google Checkout since this happens before the page for the Miva checkout page.

This is what Google sent me:

To view a buyer's phone number, you must complete a Level 2 API
integration with Google Checkout. (For more information about level 2
integrations, please visit
http://code.google.com/apis/checkout/developer/index.html#level_2_integration.)
After you implement a Level 2 API integration, be sure to set the optional
element <request-buyer-phone-number> to 'true' in the
<merchant-checkout-flow-support> structure when you submit your shopping
cart to Google Checkout. Google Checkout will then return the buyer's
phone number in the <buyer-billing-address> sub-element <phone> in the new
order notification. For more information, please visit
http://code.google.com/apis/checkout/developer/index.html#merchant_checkout_flow_support_st.

Customers do not often give you a valid phone number...I know I never do...I know the phone number of the company if I need to contact them...and they have my email address. Requiring phone numbers (and especially relieing on them) is rather pointless (IMO).

Well that's stupid. I ship entertainment wall units and furniture all over the country and have to verify every phone number so the freight company can get in touch with the customer to deliver. My customers know this and realize that giving a bad number means no delivery.....So, maybe for a small item that would be true but if you are spending $5000.00 I'm sure you are going to give me your number....

Besides, that does not answer my question.

Then I would suggest contacting Google and complaining.

They insisted on the way Google Checkout works - that was not the module developer or MIVA's choice.

If you have customers parting with 5K without a prior relationship...then I guess standard business practices to not apply.

As for your question, it was partitially answered by Vic. You could, as a work around, simple add a text field attribute to a product requesting phone number, or add a request to the basket screen to send this info separately.

i guess that is an option, but in the info google sent me, this should be easy to setup...i just don't have any idea how to even start.

Wow, you don't? I do. And I appreciate a call if there are any problems.

In my experiences, the majority of shoppers do give a valid number.

Read the help docs on creating product attributes. You'll want a text attribue.
