Scott,
Seems we have a lot more in common than I knew :)
I'm also an avid hockey fan and proud Dallas Stars Season Ticket holder since 1998 (yes...before they won the stanley cup!).
I was a Los Angeles Kings fan until I moved to Dallas in late '96.
Glad I got to see Gretzky play before he left LA and retired shortly thereafter.

Yes, I got to see the Great one a few times at the tank. Some of his greatness was diminished because of his back injuries he had in the early 90s. He still played at higher level than anybody -- he almost came to San Jose before St. Louis. There's a good chance Sharks will play the Stars in the 1st round -- we'll be virtual Rivals :-).

True, although we usually play Edmonton first round...
I do beleive that destiny does in fact lead both our roads to the same place in the playoffs eventually...hope you're prepared to for a puck slapping :D

Speaking of things in common.
Vic, I observed the Bootjack wolf pack for a bit. There's a huge issue with feral dogs invading the pack and so currently they are more hybrid than wolf. Unfortunately it means that the wolves now have domesticated dog vulnerabilities as well, like Parvo.

Yes there is that as well as re-education of the public.
Since we've been little kids, we've been taught that wolves are dangerous animals...ie: little red riding hood, 3 little pigs, etc.
To this day there has never been a documented case of a healthy wolf agressing a human. Wolves fear us and only attack like most animals, when threatened or injured/ill and scared.
Re-introduction has been fought in every state its been tried in. Currently, the US Fish & Game dept has been trying to re-introduce a pack (18 wolves) into free range land in New Mexico/Arizona and are being fought tooth and nail by ranchers.
They fear the wolves will eat their cattle. Strange thing is, cattle is NOT in the diet of a wolf. They are often mistaken for Coyotes, which are scavengers and will attack bovine's.
Its sad that such a beautiful animal, and a spiritual symbol to many native americans - is shot on sight because of misinformation and/or mistaken identity.
Larry...I look at it, you couldn't lose either way... Le Habitant or LA Kings -- the cup was in your favor....
That's true. Oilers have top make the playoffs first. Sharks are starting to play some of there best hockey. I will admit, Dallas and Detroit are the two teams that playing great hockey in general. I can say that because I'm a hockey fan 1st, them a hometown fan next.

My only concern is as you said, Detriot.
While they are not the big red machine they were under Scotty Bowman...they are definately a force to be reckoned with come 3rd round.
I'm still on the fence as to whether I'd rather see Ottawa or Carolina as our foe in the Cup Finals.
Although our old coach 'Hitch' and the Flyers may be the Eastern Conf. dark horse this year.

On a more personal note: I am an avid bowler and volunteer as a director with the local county bowling association promoting the concept of organized bowling as a sport, primarily to the youth bowlers.
I totally missed this - I've been a Youth Coach for many years now - I "specialize" in the Pee Wee's - my youngest has been 18 months - and no upper limit for my special kids. I love working with the beginners - before the attitudes and the parents get in the way.

If I make it this year - it will be hard to justify going this year since the IT department purchased some other cart package (I don't even know what the name of it is). Unless someone wants to pay to send me - uh huh - yeah right.

You could always do what Chuck did a couple years ago :)
I still remember that pic of him standing on the corner with the sign "Miva Conference or Bust".

That was for an MvCool contest for a free ticket. But there's no more MvCool (it's now MivaCentral), and Keith, who ran the contest, is gone. And there was no similar contest since then. Now the only way to get a free ticket that I know of is to be a speaker.
I'll be interested if the "new MIVA" that is participating in this forum will also send people to regional conferences, if those every happen again.

I'd like to do that if I make it down there this year. I just haven't figured it out yet.

On a more personal note: I love to sing, play the piano, cross-stitch, play with my kids, and read.
We'll have to remember this at the conference this year...time for some Kareoke in the piano bar? :D

Is anyone else having trouble remembering to come out here? It's been like 3 weeks I think!
YES!!!! And I have myself subscribed to everything that I can - the emails I get just don't have enough info, then by the time I get here someone has already posted. It will be a good repository of information but it really has cut done on me being able to reply to what little I reply to...
Sigh... :(

And, if you don't click on the link for the notification of a topic, you're auto-unsubscribed from the topic, so you gotta stay diligent in opening new browser windows, which is just wonderful for Windows resources - opening and closing new IE browser windows all day... So I sometimes miss a click, and then i don't get notifications again.
I'm amazed there is as much activity as there is on here. Some people are more determined than I, I guess.

Yeah - I suppose if I didn't have the day job getting in the way, I could hang out here all day. Would be like when AOL first went unlimited and I hung out in chatrooms - LOL. :p

Yes, some threads in the off-topic forums do get threadjacked upon occasion. Because some of those threads have some good info in them, I'm just moving the threadjacking posts to this thread.

We pretty much hijacked the Getting to know you thread (went through to prune it and almost everyone was guilty of it :D), I just posted a new thread to move them to as opposed to starting a new thread from the ones I pulled out.

Its going to be a common thread (pardon the pun) until folks get used to staying on topic...personally its one of the things that annoyed me the most about the old listserv...a large majority of threads get hijacked by personal agendas, OT quips, and empty posts...(i.e., yup.... me to.... i agree...) while its understandable when one thinks of the listserv and this forum as a "discussion" it make finding real information fustrating and next to impossible at times...
Jimmy Cooper

I think everyone is guilty of doing it. And it will continue to happen. So if we all could just make a concious effort to keep things on-topic, the Forums will be a much more useful resrouces.
Plus, when yo uabsolutely need to talking about beer or bowling (or both, for that matter), that's what this OT forum is for.
Now, getting back off-topic...How many of you would seriously participate in karaoke if we did something at the Conference?

Okay, but on the other hand, just throwing all the threads in here is also confusing. Sometimes some of those off topic comments are a way to keep the juices flowing. I hope this isn't going to be an attempt to NEVER allow anyone to make quips in a thread. I agree it sometimes gets out of hand, but sometimes it's what keeps us all sane.

I think the main issue was all the OT posts in a thread that we had wanted to keep "sticky" and get everyone to post their short bios. It other threads, it may be more appropriate.

I did it to the "Getting to know you thread" because I think if you look at how many threads got pruned out, we ended up losing the true intent of that thread.
No, it won't be a habit, however at the same time, I didn't want to just delete those posts, hence their new home here.
As for the Karaoke, Jimmy, you all don't want to hear me sing. It really isn't pretty. This last weekend I did a live Karaoke (an actual live band behind you) and had the lead guitarist singing back up for me the entire time. I think, but am not entirely certain, that dogs ran at least 2 states away to get away from my tonedeaf tune. :D

But you're not going to use this thread as a dumping ground for all OT posts, are you? That itself would get quite confusing.

I am hoping that there won't be any real need to dump anymore threads here. (Read that as, no, it was (at least I hope) a one time only thing and just started a thread to move them to.)

No. If we're doing karaoke, I expect people to be lined up waiting to sing.
