Anybody have any experience with adding a blog to a site?
I have taken a look at WordPress http://wordpress.org/ and it looks interesting and possible. Any thoughts?
That would be a good choice -- fairly easy to set up too. There are some nifty addons related to it also.

Wordpress is definitely a GREAT blogging system, and very popular indeed. We have quite a few clients using it and so far we have not seen any problems or security issues like with some other freeware software packages out there.

For what it's worth, I have a friend who uses wordpress. We had some issues with posting comments for a while, but that seems to be working now. Since then, he hasn't had any other complaints.

Ditto on that. But do make sure you're always running the latest. They're great at updating to fix security issues. However, those running the older version may not care for the newer structure (only because we're used to plain Jane and the new version is much more user friendly - formatting and ui has gotten easier).
How do you get the blog onto the website?
Thanks :D

Download it from www.wordpress.org. They have a package that is hosted with them (with ads), and one you can download and install on your server.

I want to thank everyone who replied. I did get WordPress, and installed it (mostly) myself. My web host, Vic (Wolfpaw) gave me some guidance in setup.
The install is very straightforward, and reasonably well documented. You will need to set up a database in MySQL and a user for the database. Other than that, download the zip file, extract, upload it to a folder on your site. You will need to update 1 php file (you can use a text editor for that)

That's because they built a very SEO'd blog software, and according to the EULA, every blog should have a link back to them. That's thousands and thousands of free links :D (almost a million (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=link%3Awordpress.org&btnG=Google+Search))

Somewhat after the fact - I use Blogger for my personal blog (I have it FTP to my server). I've been setting up Drupal sites for a little more functionality beyond a blog but not quite as intense as Joomla!

I've been using Blogger.com. It's FREE, and you can either have them host the blog, or you can host it on your own server. My clients find it easy to use, and the price is right. (Did I mention it's FREE?)
Here's a few sites that have blogs incorporated through blogger.com:
Hurricane's Hints (http://hurricanebobshints.blogspot.com/) - Computer and Graphics Tips and Tricks
Free Pediatric Advice (http://www.pediatricadvice.net) - Go to the "Advice" section, you can hardly tell it's a blog
