Leslie's thread on her 100,000 name email list reminded me of a question I have been meaning to ask. We have three Subscribe2 lists with one of the lists having over 18,000 names.
Our 18,000 name list takes 3 1/2 hours to send and will die at least 2 times while sending. I figured that when it stops it is just because it just has a hiccup or something. Anyone else have a Subscribe2 list with a comparable # of names have to go to the Subscribe2 outbox and start sending again because Subscribe2 stopped? Is 18,000 names high enough where I should consider moving on to another email product?

I don't think it's a limitation of Subscribe2 - we have clients using it with a lot more than 18,000 names. It's most likely more of a limitation of what the server can do. Sending massive volumes of email is a lot more CPU intensive than most people realize, and generally trying to send such large volumes of email on a small shared server account may simply be too much for the server to handle gracefully. If anything, you may want to consider moving to a better/faster server, dedicated server, VPS, etc, or simply outsource the whole mass mailing part to a company that specializes in nothing but sending large volumes of email so this doesn't affect your own server load.

Hi Remik,
I thought in the past I had seen posts about users having Subscribe2 lists with well over 20,000 names. I figured it was probably just our server since we are running three Miva stores, as well as all email on it. I have been thinking about talking to my boss about setting up an additional server strictly for mail. Do you think moving the email to a new machine would make any difference in Miva for our three stores. The sites run just fine now, but just curious if it would make any difference.
Thanks, Eli

Unless the server is handling a lot of email already, offloading regular email by itself is likely not going to make a huge difference. BUT, if you are referring to offloading mailing lists to a separate system - then yes, that can make a noticeable improvement in your stores' response times. The server will have more CPU cycles and memory available for processing mivavm requests rather than sending large volumes of email non-stop and tying up the CPU and memory in the process.

Thank you for the info Remik. Setting up a seperate mail server for mail lists is definitely something I hope to look into next year.
Cheers,
Eli
