Restricting Item Sale to Foreign Countries

Hello,

We ship items all over the world. However, we have one particular item that we cannot ship outside of the USA (sales restrictions per the manufacturer). We have a notice stating this in the product's description on the site - but if a foreign customer puts the item into his/her shopping cart, they can still check out. We then have to email them and tell them they can't order it... yada yada yada..

My question is - is there a way to restrict the sale of a particular item to USA addresses only? But just for that particular item?

CBS' Shipping SuperMod (http://tinyurl.com/ya4klo) would be an excellent way to restrict this.

You could select the option in the edit product screen to prevent any shipping options from showing up with that product and the customers country. With Viking's templates, you could also use some creative OpenToken scripting to either display a message or even direct them to another screen with more information.

"Checkout This" can provide the restriction you need. You can set it to display an error-message page if certain products are in the basket and the ship-to country is not "US." You can make the error page a "dead end," with no Continue button, so that the customer can't complete the purchase.
