Empty Basket issues

I'm trying to get my cart button to change depending on if the user has items in it. However using <mvt:if expr="l.settings:basket:empty"> to do this only works in the BASK screen, the variable isn't available globally that I can tell. When I go to one of the other pages I always get the else part of the statement, so it looks like there is something in the cart even if there isn't. I'd like this to work in all the other screens as I am putting this in the global header. Here is a link to our store (in progress...) http://www.wake-space.com/merchant.mvc

Figured it out. I wasn't putting turning the Basket item on in the specific pages. That seems to be the problem. Thanks,
