I've always been pretty happy with MIVA 5's "import from flat file" capability. One thing that has always bothered me though is that when I import products with descriptions, some of the descriptions get quoted while others do not. So I end up with an inconsistant format of description in my store. My questions is... has anybody else experienced this? I assume a certain character is the culprit, but is this a problem with the MIVA software, or is there maybe something I can do in excel to fix this issue? Thanks guys.

The issue is not with Merchant, but with Excel.

Save the file as a csv file and strip out the extra quotes and save, then import.

Would the same apply to M-IV as well?

Yes, since its a known issue with Excel, not Merchant.

Would the same apply to M-IV as well?

Import as a cv or save it to a .txt file after saving it to a CV?

Either way. The format is text, just the delimiter is changing.

Merchant doesn't care if its .txt, .csv, .dat, .prn etc. As long as you tell it what delimiter you are using.

Personally, I prefer the pipe character | over anything else.

I guess it is the procedure for clearing the quotes that is confusing me.
