Displaying Stock Levels On Product Pages

As soon as I get the last few inventory issues, I'll be able to launch my webiste. So, I guess I'm looking for advice/opinions from store owners with regards to displaying "Out Of Stock" notifications on the product pages, as opposed to the customer being to an "Insufficient Inventory" page. Which do you feel is the better way to go?

I'm sure it's possible, but how would one go about displaying Out of Stock & Back Ordered product on individual product pages? Keep in mind I'm using Inventory Manager.
