View Full Version : Product Attribute Images?

Using MM5, we'd like to show an image of each attribute. We'll probably use radio buttons for the attributes. Is this something we can do "out-of-the-box"? If so, how? Or...do we need to go with the Attribute Master module?
Also, will it be possible to have a text identifier under each attribute image? For example, an image of the product in green glass and then have "Green Glass" below?
Thanks,
Ron
Out of the box, you can display images or text, not both. You could add the text to the actual images, but depending on how many you would have to modify, the module might be the smarter way to go.

Leanne,
Out of the box...how would I display the attribute images? Are there options in the admin for this, or will I need to code it in?
And, do you know for a fact that the module will allow to do both image and text?
Thanks,
Ron
I'd use photoshop to add text to images, and then save as a .gif. I was just going to do a post asking about attributes.
I have gift boxes on my site for baby gifts and I let the customer choose items from 14 onesies, 5 pants colors, approx 10 bibs and hats, and 6 blankets. This gets really cumbersome and I think it's driving customers away, especially if they have a problem, or if they leave the site and come back and their shopping cart is empty. No way they are going through all that again.
Any recs for attribute modules for something complicated like this?
Thanks

When you set up an attribute, if you put an image path into the image section of the attribute, it will display the image by default (and no text). If you leave the image section empty, it will display the text.
I would contact the module developer directly to ask him about features of his module.

If you find an answer to this, could you post it here?
thanks

Don't hold me to this because I have not tested it, but Sebenza's Product Template Manager does include attribute templates. You could do some re-coding in there to get both attribute pictures and text to display at the same time.
Amy,
I looked at your situation and it definitely seems very cumbersome and ackward. Do these products change often? Reason I ask is because a fully customized template for those products could ease some of the bulk, but you would lose some control over editing the product in the admin.

Dan,
Can you explain this a little more. My products don't change that often. I will have more designs and colors in the winter and I will add youth/toddler t-shirts. I like to add combinations every month, but I could come up with a good list of combinations that won't change. I really want to make the site more user-friendly. I have a lot of ideas of how I'd want it to look and how I would choose attributes, but don't have the technical background to know how to do that within Miva.
Thanks.

Just a quick question. When I went to onesies there is an option to "add a second for $10". Is that an attribute of the first onesies selected, or are you using a module?
thanks
It's just an attribute. The only modules I really use right now are the Coupon one and the addendum one. I had the gift certificate one, but that wasn't working very well. I also had the gift list and that got ugly as well, but that was earlier on when my site wasn't as developed as it is right now.

Amy,
Send me a Private Message with your ideas and we can discuss what you can do and what some of the limitations are.
Thanks,
Dan
