View Full Version : Setting up my first Miva store. Advice??
Hi,
I'm planning to set up my first Miva store with about five categories and 20 items. I will be using Authorize.net as my payment gateway. The store will be customized to work with an established brand.
I've never done this before. I won't ask the annoying question of how much i should charge. but can someone give me an idea of approx how many hours i should expect to spend setting something like this up???
cheers!

That is impossible to guage.
That will depend on how difficult the intergration is, how much customizing will be needed, your skill level, and how quickly you can adapt to the MIVA StoreMorph Technology.
Every developer learns and works at their own pace.
when do you need to use store morph technology?

Knowledge of how the scripting works, basic understanding of programming structure and syntax.
I'd suggest starting with the MM5 online docs:
http://docs.smallbusiness.miva.com/en-US/merchant/5/webhelp/MM5_Table_of_Contents.htm
Specifically the section on UI and StoreMorph.
Thanks for the link. One of us is proficient in html so i don't think it will be a problem.
What I'm really asking is roughly how much time should I expect to spend to create a very basic eCommerce website? No modules. The fanciest feature I expect to implement is "click here for larger image". Otherwise, simply click and pay.
i guess there are no other takers?

basic e-commerce website could be done in a day if everything is ready:
Look at this documents: http://docs.smallbusiness.miva.com/en-US/merchant/5/webhelp/Import_Products_from_a_Flat_File.htm
you need to be able to have majority of this data available, at least everything through "full-sized image". If you have all this data, then its fast.
Do you want to have something like a rollower effect on your cat-tree? breadcrumbs? add multiple products to cart with one click? coupons? shipping options sorted by price? by zip? by country? add customers to price groups automatically? communicate with customers by online form? notify customers of order status change? have nice looking (not goofy MIVA style) customer notification emails? have follow up emails? etc., etc...
If any answer is yes: then you will need to integrate modules and spend more time.
Question your client on EXACT FUNCTIONALITY of the future site.
thanks, that's what I wanted to hear.
