I'm using Miva 4.24 and OUI 4.956. I'm reaching the point where I have so many categories that I needed a way (whether it be an arrow or whatever) to better distinguish the category that the customer is currently visiting. I wanted to poll the group.

Take a look at the Category Navigation Menu, which will put a breacrumb style trail:
http://www.designextend.com/page/miva/PROD/DEN_CATMENU
It allows you to display categories like this:
Home > Clothing > Women's > Gloves & Scarves

Happy Friday Pamela. I'm using one of BW's mod which is certainly helpful for what you describe, but for those that might focus on the category tree I thought I might utilize something there as well.

Unfortunately, other than just a listing of the subcats, there's not much room to do much else unless you use a conditional to display that link different IF it is the current category.
However, a great deal of research shows that no matter what you do, many shoppers miss the left menu once they've clicked a main category. This is why listing the subcats in the screen itself is so useful. On every site I've implemented that functionality on, an increase of hits to those subcats was noticed, and the majority also saw an increase in sales.
Happy Saturday!

Pamela, I found your suggestion "...listing the subcats in the screen itself..." to be very interesting. Can you please provide me with a link of a site where you have seen this so I can get some ideas? Also, is this possible with Viking Coders (Category & Product) Templates?
Thanking you for your response, Jerry Chavez

Sure, we do it on our own site, like this:

Yes, it was done with the Category Page Templates (http://www.designextend.com/page/miva/PROD/BROK_CTGYTEMPLATES) module. Just put the %subcats% token in the main template, then you can modify the layout on the subcategories section. It's actually covered, in decent detail, in the docs.
When you installed the module a default subcategory template was created, you can also use that as a basis.

Firstly I would like to say this thread has been very useful in helping me the the navigation of my categories.
I purchased the VK Category Template module and have been trying to model it off of the designextend layout (in regards to the categories layout). I can't seem to figure out how to display both the sub-categories as a list and displaying the sub-categories w/products. For instances here is a category I've been working on with VK cateogry module: http://www.shopjavaco.com/page/shopjavaco/CTGY/Audio_Video. I want to have listed above the different sub-categores w/products a listing on the sub-categories (just like designextend.com). (I hope that makes sense) I've spent the better part of the day trying to get this to work.
Any ideas? Thanks!
Best,
Andrew
