Help with setting up promotion codes

I'm new using Miva, so I hope someone can help me. We want to set up promotion codes for free shipping or assigning discounts to certain categories. Anyone have any ideas how to make this happen? I would love any advice! Thanks

The Coupon Manager allows you to do all that, as well as set additional restrictions (products) and allow coupons to be redeemed by certain groups:
