Any Flash experts in here? I have a client that had a site done in 100% Flash 8. He wants the site broken apart so only some parts are Flash, and those parts are Flash 6 format (due to the lack of proliferation of Flash 8). That sounded fine, and I got the FLA files and I have Macromedia Flash 8 Pro. Except, the parts are still forcing export to an SWF that is Flash 8 version, giving the error:

8 or higher
Symbol=Tween 6, layer=Layer 1, frame=1:VP6 Codec requires Flash Player 8 or higher
Symbol=Tween 6, layer=Layer 1, frame=1:VP6 Codec requires Flash Player 8 or higher

Is anyone able to take Flash files in this scenario, and change the codec so it can be exported to Flash 6 format? They're just simple .mov files in there...

Thanks!

I was curious if Google can index/crawl Flash yet?

Yes:

Google Can Now Index . . . Flash! An Interview With Michael Marshall (http://www.webpronews.com/ebusiness/seo/wpn-4-20040907GoogleCanNowIndexFlashAnInterviewwithMicha elMarshall.html)

At least they say they can.

This has always been the case to some degree...it still requires that the flash developer make an effort...its just that the effort is easier. In the "old days" the trick was to output the "text" of the flash applicaiton into meta data or body text components rendered between the <noscript></noscript> tags.

But as the artical points out, the newer flash is making this type of data more accessable to crawlers and other script based page readers.

Tom,

THANKS!! That's what I need to know, even though it means I'm screwed because the dumba**es that created the Flash deleted the original MOV files so they can't be reimported. Sigh. Maybe I can screen capture the movies with Camtasia and reprocess...

Thanks again.

I wanted to publically thank Adam of First Man Media (http://www.firstmanmedia.com/) for helping me with the Flash problems I had. For a very reasonable sum, Adam reprocessed the Flash movies into Flash 7 with about 95% accuracy to the Flash 8 versions. He used the original MOV and AVI files to do it, and did it quickly. I know I will always go to Adam for any Flash help in the future.

Thanks, Adam!
