From the Fast Data Feed description,

Submit request to FroogleTM for acceptance into the program INFO (https://www.google.com/froogle/merchants/base.html)
Install this module and run it
Once accepted, upload resulting (username).txt flat file to FroogleTM through their Google Base panel. Make sure to select feed type as "Products"
Check your pages in FroogleTM when they show up

it would appear that an FTP client is required since MIVA is running on a web server somewhere and the Google base upload screen is accessed via a local machine. Therefore the resulting text file generated by Fast Data Feed would need to be transferred from the server to a local machine somehow, e.g., FTP. Am I correct, or am I missing the boat completely here?

Also when running Fast Data Feed, can the resulting .txt file location on the server be specified?

Thanks.

Stan B.

I would suggest you contact the developer directly for support with his module.

Although you should contact the developer when it comes to questions regarding third party modules - I can tell you, no you don't need an FTP client. GoogleBase is where you can upload your txt file. After running Fast Data Feed it will create a txt file that it saves to the server and you can view via a browser. I do a save of the page from the browser to my desktop and gofrom there.

And the files generated go into your root.....

True, the files go in the root but as Leslie said all you have to do is save it locally and then upload to Google. Real easy. No FTPing necessary.

I need to ask the designer... As I enter / into the module, it saves the generated things into the mivadata section in my root, not the httpdocs section which is the "root" and where Google says to have the sitemap.xml.

if i tell it to /httpdocs it creates a folder with this name in the root.

So as of yet, I have to pull the file to my desktop, then re up it to my root.

Hopefully there is something im missing here to have it generated to the right locale upon generation.

And leslie, the sitemap for google is xml not txt.... and yes you point google to it in there manager section...Then verify you are the owner of site..

Perhaps you are thinking of Yahoo feed, as this is txt and is called urllist.txt

It appears that we are talking about two different things here.... i was reffering to the generation of google sitemaps sitemap.xml///

And all my replies were based on this module

Got them confused with thread topic.......

The fast data feed module generates a txt file and saves it to the root. It does not create a google sitemap as that is done with other modules. The original question was about the fast data feed module.

The template data feed can create the google site map (xml) and froogle feed and yahoo feed and just about any other feed you want. It also puts the resulting file in the root directory. In the case of the google site map it is a xml file and you don't have to move it because it is already exported to the root directory where it is supposed to be.
