View Full Version : Anyone have any problems with VC's PayPal Web Accept?

Generally it works well for us, but we seem to have some issues. For example, every now and then an order will be processed via PayPal and everything seems fine, but for example the inventory for the products ordered is not reduced. Another glitch is something that happened again today where a PayPal order was processed, it shows in Open Orders, etc. but no confirmation emails went out to us or the customer, the order wasn't logged in ELM, etc. It just seems as if sometimes the orders are not fully processed. And when these things happens it's *always* a PayPal order. Anyone have any glitches like this, or have any ideas for me? Thanks!

Neither of those sound like a PayPal or Payment module issue. The later *might* be, but this could also be just a failure of the the web site accepting the call back from PayPal or PayPal itself not issueing the call back correctly. You will want to confer with your host to see if the server logs show any incorrect requests or responses. You will need to tell them approximately what time these orders took place.

You should also be addressing any issues with module problems with the developers directly through their existing support channels.
While I understand the point of posting to a public forum, I as a developer would be a little put off if an issue was publically posted when we had not been given the opportunity to resolve it first - if in fact it is an error or bug in said module.

I contacted them about it months ago and they had no ideas for us. Sorry I didn't mention that. I am only inquiring to see if anyone else has a similar problem and more importantly, what the resolution might be.
You may be having email server issues. Missing email, definitely. Not debiting inventory, possibly. If the email server hangs, the basket may not get deleted on the invoice page. If it is not deleted, when you delete it in admin, the items will go back in inventory. Both could be the same related problem.

Wow really? If the system for whatever reason isn't able to send the confirmation email to the customer and/or merchant, it can cause the order to get messed up like that? That seems crazy (very bad system design) to me. Is this absolutely true, or are you just guessing?
If this is true perhaps we should setup our own DNS and/or mailserver, or some type of backup, so we don't have to rely on our webhost? They are not known as being one of the most reliable unfortunately, but at this point it would be a huge undertaking to move and we aren't able to do it now.

I just wanted to followup on this since it happened again today...
I don't think this could be an email server issue, since it only happens with PayPal orders. Right?
We have other non-Miva sites that take PayPal and use their instant notification/callback system, and we've never had a problem like this.
Short of this server sometimes not receiving PayPal's call back, can anyone think of any other reasons this might be happening?
