We've been using MIVA for about 4 months now. Occasionally users will get the following message after they have submitted their order:

Your Email could not be sent at this time. The following error was encountered: <xxxxxx@gmail.com>: Recipient address rejected: does not exist

I don't understand, because the email addresses are valid and customers do receive an email receipt.

Any ideas how to keep this message from appearing?

You may need to check with your host on that, even if the address is bad, the mail server that Merchant uses should accept the message and then try to deliver it before realizing the address is bad; it should not know either way at the time of accepting the email from the store so it sounds like maybe something else is going on with that mail server.

I forgot to add this part of the error message.

Runtime error in ouisub6.mvc @ [00000083:0000034c]: MvSMTP: <xxxxxx@gmail.com>: Recipient address rejected: does not exist

The error message you are getting this message sounds like MIVA is trying to resolve gmail.com locally. Change your from email address to an address on your domain and see if that solves the problem.

Another thing to try is login via SSH to the shell and do a dns lookup (nslookup) on gmail.com.

If it fails, something is wrong with the dns queries on that machine.
