Hey all,

I have some products that ship in different sizes that I'm having trouble listing.

What I have usually done is either list variations of a product as different products or I would give them attributes adding cost to the product. Now I have one that I can't really list like that.

My question is, is there a way to make it so that the product doesn't have a base price but instead gets its price from an option?

You could make the product price $0.00 and then assign actual prices to each attribute, even for the "standard" size. Make these attributes required so customers can't skip them while adding the item to the cart. Problem solved.

Yes, you can simply make the product 0.00 with the attributes/options holding the full price. There is a module to suppress the 0.00 display, and this can also be done directly through the viking templates.

Just make sure you make the attribute/options required.

While personally I'm opposed to the idea of putting in a $0.00 for product pricing, I've seen this done quite a bit.

Then set the price via the attribute. Just keep in mind the customer will be confused by a $0.00 price on the screen and in the basket, and then seeing an attribute with a price as a line item under the $0.00 priced item in the basket.

Yeah, I was hoping to avoid the showing of a zero amount.

What was the module, the Viking Page Templeate?

Will the VC Product Page Template module allow you to accomplish what the Basket Price Combination does?

Yeah, I was hoping to avoid the showing of a zero amount.
You can design your templates not to display the price on product and/or category pages if price=$0.00. This way your customers would have to click on the product to see the actual pricing - which can depend on the 'attribute' they selected.

There is also a single module that suppresses all $0.00 displays for Merchant 4. Its by Santafe Mall, and available at DesignExtend.com.

No it will not - which is why you'd also need the Basket Price Combination module (http://tinyurl.com/zovux) I suggested.
