Some interesting facts facts ive learned from my ELM2 module I bought...

Yet 1 of them sticks out like a sore thumb. It for when people do searches.

The 1 that is being done alot onsite is a search for babydolls ...which pulls up nothing....

yet we have over 50 onsite. As a simple thing to drop the "s" will pull up them all...or versions of it....

is there anyway to make the search option a bit more on the wild card side....?

I mean them putting in "s" at the end comes up with zero results..this just doesnt seem right..especialy since the descriptions have more variables.

Checkout search manager from viking coders (http://www.jmhonline.net/miva-modules/search+manager). You can assign mispelled words to products for this exact purpose.

you can also simply add <!-- babydoll baby dolls, babydolls etc --> to the description field. These html comments will be scanned by Merchant but not appear to the user in the display.

Hmmm this method doesnt appear as it works Bruce...

I put this in the prod description...

<!-- babydoll baby dolls babydolls babydols -->

also tried

<!-- babydoll, baby dolls, babydolls, babydols -->

And it doesnt pull it up.

Oh wait I entered it to a product and it worked....

Wonder why it wont work if i assign it to a category...

Perhaps this is where a module as Jason said would shine better in this case..

i dunno

another odd thing is, in the prod description..if someone searches for the mispelled phrase of the item, it only brings up the one item that the string is entered in, not them all.... in this case I have over 60 of these items...

so i assume id have to enter that in each prod description......

Ah, yea...you have to enter it for each product...and no, Merchant search doesn't look at category data.

Other bonuses with Viking Search: You can customize the display, you can creat links that have custom searches embedded in them (for products by price range, for instance), you can have sort controls and it logs your searches, too.

This module is a "must have" in my mind, as it's the best way to "searchandize."
