Pass through additional text fields ?

Is there some way to pass through additional text (e.g. a coment field) with a product or order ? I am looking at selling some merchandise that needs to be personalized... is there a way to add additional info and have it show up with the order ? Any good solutions to this issue?

There is another option depending on what your product is.

If the personalization, or other comments apply to the whole product, then Addendum works very well - We use Addendum for gift wrap options


But, if the personalization applies to each item in the cart, and especially if you NEED the information, then you might be better off making it an attribute for each product. Just set the attribute type to text field, and have a good prompt.

The main advantage is that you can make it a required attribute, wherease customers can skip over the additional questions at checkout

The only downside is that you will have to do this for every product that has the personalization option.

Thanks Lee, that's a great way to do it. This is a "per item" situation so that sounds like the best choice.
