I have a client who I am just about to convert from another cart system to Miva. One thing he has asked for were any examples on how much can a Miva store handle and not crash, basically some examples of real sites using Miva.
Would anyone be willing to give me their URL and a rough number of how many orders you may have gotten in a month or a day? I would like to show him a list like:
widgetstore.com - 40,000 orders in December
anotherstore.com - 1,500 orders a day
etc...
Thanks for any help in advance, if you would like to keep this off the list and PM me directly that would be great as well.

I've seen plenty of stores run this without a problem. The key is having the resources (a GOOD server) and being careful about running too many System Extension modules.
Do it right and a 4 or 5 store could handle the traffic fine.

Kevin,
We host some very large stores using MIVA Merchant, and it's quite a capable system. However, there are no "hard numbers" that you can compare - a lot will depend on the type of server this store is on, whether all your pages are dynamically generated or whether you use something like Merchant Optimizer to generate a static replica of your site for visitors to browse (which definitely enables you to handle a LOT more traffic without killing the server CPU and/or memory). If you anticipate the level of traffic you implied in your message, you'd definitely need to be on a dedicated server - a good higher-end dedicated server (single CPU system most likely won't be sufficient), and you will need a way to move people off of dynamically generated pages as much as possible.
I can't give you the numbers for some of the large sites we host as that would violate our confidentiality agreements with our clients, but let's just say we host stores that handle a LOT more than you described, without problems. Just don't expect to be able to use a shared hosting account somewhere to be able to compete with those who run similar large stores on fully dedicated dual or quad CPU systems...
