Does anyone have a module that allows for the download of softgoods for Merchant 5?

Not currently.

However MIVA has stated they planned to address this in a future release. We have not heard a timetable on this however.

A handful of developers have custom versions they've done on case by case basis.

That sucks!

I will have to find another solution for my client. We are on a tight budget, so I cannot propose custom devlopment. Also, I see the MM4 softgoods modules are pretty expensive.

Just my opinion, but this should be a built-in feature, and should not require a module.

While it is a popular module for v4, keep in mind that not all online retailers sell softgoods.

While it may appear to be a must for you, it isnt for many others.

That is a common feature in almost all ecommerce solutions. Though softgood downloads may not be the majority, it is a large percentage. I agree that there is a time and a place for a module, this, in my opinion, is not one of them and should be a standard feature.

Another good example of this is a simple contact form. Miva does not even come with the option to add a simple contact form with validation and processing. So, we have to use PHP, which Miva Merchant hates, or buy another module for a feature that is common on almost all websites, not just ecommerce sites.

I agree with your statement, just not in this case.

FormMail is free, often available through any host. Why would you need to use PHP?

Setup a category, put the form html in the category header, and post to formmail.pl.

Simple, and no cost.

I think you are generalizing far too much, considering the vast number of e-commerce products out there.

I have noticed that when anyone mentions the lack of features in Miva Merchant on this forum, they are bombarded with excuses as to why things are the way they are. It is like Miva Merchant was coded in stone and will never be upgraded with any new features.

The end result of this thread, I have to use osCommerce, which has softgood downloads built right into it, or wait for a third party module developer to build me a module, which at the current MM4 module rate will cost me, and my client, an extra $150 or so. My opinion, it should be a standard feature.
