Something I would love for our store is to customize the shipping price like they let you do on ebay. I have been looking at the Miscellaneous fee module, but that would add a price on top of the the shipping and people might not like to have an additional charge. I would just like to customize all of the shipping charges to be different. Not the base shipping, not the base + weight, none of that. I am hoping there is a module that I can just give one shipping price per item. Most of the shipping prices are different and they aren't going off the weight. Customized. That would be cool.

Thank you for anyone who can help me figure this out!

Have you considered just adding the shipping price to the product -- then everything would ship for free?

I think buyers want to know how much their shipping is going to be before they get to the checkout screen. Free shipping is always attractive.

If we add the shipping to the product then the product prices aren't as attractive. But that is a great idea.

I did find a module for this but it is for Miva 4. Does anyone know if this one comes for Miva 5??

I agree that the price does not look as attractive upfront. However, adding unique shipping amount might make buyers abandon their shopping carts too.

I would contact Viking Coders and see if they know when the Miva 5 module will be ready...you never know it might be really close.

I found another module, and am wondering if this might do what I am looking for. http://www.designextend.com/page/miva/PROD/CBS_SUPSHIPPING

A note on this, as well. If you're planning to offer "hard to believe pricing" so you can make your money on shipping, be prepared to have a great deal of cart abandonment. eBayers do this thinking it makes them tops, but there are plenty of eBayers now boycotting such acts.

I, for one, won't purchase from ANYONE on eBay who pulls this "scam" of an act.

Rant done.

My point is, if you're selling a $200 product for $50 then capturing your profits on inflated shipping costs, you're going to disgruntle quite a few people.

If you do this, make sure you call it Shipping AND HANDLING - because it's NOT shipping charges solely.

Yes I agree with you Pamela, I am just the webdesigner for this company. I found the module that allows making a handling fee option and suggested it to the boss....but he asked me to find a way to customize the shipping.

Max,

Pamela has a point, I wouldn't inflate either the product price or shipping too much. However, if you inflate your product prices you'll never even get traffic from the sales channels like Froogle regardless of your super low shipping.
