Is there a way to bulk load image alt tags rather than have the default of what ever the image name is. my images have to be named a certain way but their alt tags should be descriptive not just 8008.jpg.

You could set up a custom field for your alt tag and do a flat file import.

How do yo go about doing that so that the custom field is recognized as an alt tag?

I would just use the product name. i.e., alt="&mvt:Product;name;"

That can be done as well, but it's possible they want to use custom fields for SEO purposes.

You can change it to whatever you want which should be the product name at the minimum.
