I'm excited! I have now decided I love the forums!

Now that I don't get notifications of posts no matter what I do (except a daily summary that's worthless), and it's so difficult to keep up with the forums manually, I've completely given up. Without the user list posts coming in all day, I'm finding myself with hours of extra time, a strange lifting of a daily burden/addicition, and a feeling like there is a world other than Miva out here! Woo hoo! I'm free! Long live the forums!

And smileys! I know Bruce loves 'em!

:D

Not hearing the 'dinging' of new e-mails coming in all day.... well, it is eerily quiet here. Guess I should turn up my Sirius radio and find a new diversion to the daily grind.....

Actually, Tom, I am looking into that, it's been added to my list of things regarding the forum. Right now, I am trying to figure out what exactly has to be changed and at what level, is it a mod, hack, or install.

Thanks!

Sorry guys this just isn't working for me. I'm subscribed to everything that moves but all I get is the topic - no clue as to what some one might really need help with. There's just not enough info to pique my interest enough to stop what I doing and weed through all the posts to try and make sense of what is going on.

Sigh...

Yes, same here. The thing that puzzles me is how little I miss the noise - this was pretty unexpected, but I am happy to give credit to Miva for that.

Now I look at the forum twice or three times a day, usually at the list of new posts, and I'm done. The Mivascript lists -which interests me the most - were always pretty quiet, and a number of coders are now on the google group and continue the discussions there, so this goes it's own way.

I still think the forum-format is pretty unintuitive; but if it works for so many people here, then it is definitely an improvement.

That was a good article but we all know the time is coming. I hope whoever buys it is big enough to completley clean house and put someone in charge that can shoot from the hip without shooting there own foot off as miva has done.

I must say - the fact that this thread has not been taken down is a testament to Julie's promise of no-censorship. Thanks, MIVA, for not using the power to delete threads and posts to censor us, even when I know it hurts.

"The company endured a net loss of $130 million in 2005, $125 million of which was mainly attributed to goodwill impairment related to the acquisition of Miva Corp., from which the company adopted its new name."

Interesting term, "goodwill impairment".

"Goodwill" is a business term to characterize the value of non-tangible assest. These can include things like market share, brand recognition, and brand penetration (think search engine indexing...and you get the idea). So, when a company changes its brand name, it usually incurs a good deal of "goodwill loss".

Excellent parable Tom...

Say you are an "open minded" individual. Your neighbor knocks on the door and when invited in, starts calling you a white-trash, slovenly pig because you set out a broken refrigerator on the edge of your lawn several days before the junk hauler was due to pick it up...result...kick in the pants.

Contrast, dear neighbor comes over asks how you've been, how's the wife and kids, then mentions that said busted refrigerator might be a danger to kids and a bit of an eyesore...result...you agree, and mention that it will be gone in a few days and maybe it would be best to put it under wraps until then...end result...a harmonious community.

Look, Miva is far from perfect, but speaking from over 20 years of experience with companies such as Microsoft, Amazon, AT &T, etc, I have rarely seen company as receptive to comments and well formed criticisms than Miva. Again, this doesn't mean every time I bitch about something that something changes...but I DO know that they are listening.

There are several folks out there who have characterized my professional persona as, well that of a Lackey...I dare say (though not due to anything other than portent) that this "Lackey" has more positive effect than dozens of whiners. You want things to change? Send a message to Miva. Just make sure you can articulate something POSITIVE they can do to improve...and chances are (at least better than sniveling)...things will change.

Of course, if what folks are after is venting frustration, then by all means vent...but all that will accomplish is venting. If you want change and improvement...point the way and perhaps they will follow.

No, I won't. There's no excuse for poor grammar. Set the example, or get out of my house!!!

Um, Bruce, I won't point out the grammar, but being in marketing, I will point out the branding errors. It's MIVA, not Miva... ;)

Thanks.

Geez, for a "Lackey" he don't try too hard, do he?
