View Full Version : Html code for listing products down the description page

Not sure if I should post this here or else where. I deal with mostly DVD's
and CD's. When copying the list of songs on the CD into the description form in Miva I run into the following problem:
When I copy and past them from my site, everything gets changed. When you goto view the cd the songs read from left to right opposed to in a straight line down the page.
I'm using the following html codes (<li>, </li>, <ol>, </ol>) to correct that problem and make each song list individually and numbered. However, it takes for ever to copy and past after each name of the song on over 50 cd's. Does anyone know of a simpliar way of doing this? Or one code I can paste at the beginning of list of songs and at the end?
thanks in advance.

Do you have an example?
There really isnt an automated way to copy your descriptions into Merchant, other than creating the products into a spreadsheet and uploading them all at one time as a flat file.

thanks for replying. For instance, say I have my track list as such
example 1:
1. Song 1
2. Song 2
3. Song 3
etc..
example 2:
If i copy that track list and pate it into the product description it comes out as such:
1. song 1 2. song 2 3. song 3 etc
I have to go an manually add the Html code before and after each song so it reads as example 1 does. if not it reads as example 2 does. So imagine trying to purchase a CD and having to read the list of songs so they are all gibirish.. here is a better example straight from my miva site:
BEFORE HTML CODING - keep in mind I copied it from a source that originally had the list as it looks after html coding but it comes like this:

Dexterity,
When you copy and paste text, you copy just the text itself - not the HTML formatting that may be there on the original web site (things like the ordered list tags you mentioned). Descriptions in MIVA Merchant rely on proper HTML tags to split up each item the way you like. However, when you paste text into the description, you aren't pasting these HTML tags - hence the text all gets clumped together.
If you want the layout to be preserved, just like on the original site you are copying from, you'd need to view the actual HTML code and copy/paste the portion that you want in your store - with the HTML tags intact. This is the only way to preserve the original formatting, as otherwise standard copy/paste will strip everything - it's quite normal and not a bug in the way MIVA Merchant works.

Thanks for the response. I have to ask my webmaster if he actually used HTML when he previously posted the cd's on my site or if he manually typed everything. I hope he used html, because to have to go and add the html codes before and after each song for over 50 cd's, averaging 30 songs a cd is going to be a nightmare, lol..
Too bad there isn't just one code you can use before the text and after the end of all the text which will simply list everything properly.

Are you talking about them being listed on static pages?
If so, regardless of how he coded it, viewing the HTML Source of the page with your browser will reveal any formatting.

thanks, thats actually what I started doing after my last post. I finally remembered view source would be helpful. I just had to sort through the other coding and figure out which applied to the list of songs... now i'm trying to recode the color schemes since they are all different. fun.. lol
