View Full Version : PayPal incompatibility!
Help! We just had a customer contact us who had tried three times to place an order of 130 of a product on our site, and each time when our site jumps to PayPal, PayPal lists her product quantity as 1. She's not about to pay $233.00 for one wedding favor, so she cancelled her order. We've been frustrated for months because we've had several dozen people cancel their orders, and now (thanks to this persistent customer) we know why. I contacted MIVA and their tech people said that MIVA only transmits the order # and the total amont owed to PayPal! What are they thinking??? They told me I need to explain on our site why the quantities, shipping, and subtotals will be wrong!!! Would you buy from a site that showed wrong amounts at the very moment when it's also asking you to confirm your order and ink it with your credit card? MIVA says they see no problem with this and still send (not enough) infomation even in version 5. I think this is a HUGE flaw and this should be fixed! Comments or fixes would be appreciated!

What PayPal module are you using? The built in MIVA one or a third party?
What version of MIVA Merchant are you running, what MIVA Engine, and what happens when you pack your files?

(Edited my post, I think I misunderstood initially) . Can you post a link to your store? So what you're saying is the person thinks that instead of 130 they're getting one of something when they reach paypal?

Yes, this is a confirmed problem with the built-in MM5 PayPal module. It doesn't matter what you order and what quantity - the only thing it passes to PayPal site during checkout is "Order Number: XXXXX", the total for that order, "Quantity 1", and Shipping & Handling - correct amount sent by MM5 to PayPal. The order total and S&H does add up, it just doesn't show an itemized list of what you are paying for and for what quantities. It assumes the "Order Number: XXXXX" generated by MM5 before you get redirected to PayPal site is all you need, I guess....
Wow, thaks for the quick responses! We're using MIVA Merchant 4.24 MIVA Engine 4.14 . We haven't bought a PayPal from a third party, so it must be the one built in MIVA. Sorry, I've no idea what packing means! Our web site is www.celebrationdelights.com (http://www.celebrationdelights.com) Yes, the quantities, shipping, etc. are all fine until they go to PayPal. Then the quantity becomes 1, the shipping $0.00 and the subtotal is the same as the total. PayPal explained that because MIVA sends only limited info, the shipping defaults in PalPal as $0.00, and the quantity defaults at 1.
Of course, after the customer pays, they get redirected back to our site, where all figures are correct, the problem is the doubt in their mind when the site goes to Paypal. Many are bailing at that point.
So, it sounds like the problem exists in MM5 as well. Is there a fix that works in 4.24?

Do yourself a favor and get Weiland's PayPal Module (http://tinyurl.com/qy2x6). It will save you a lot of heartache. Regardless what version of Merchant you are running, this module will solve the issues as long as you carefully follow the instructions.

Sorry, didn't catch that you were running v4 at first. I confirmed this issue with PayPal in MM5, but I guess you're right - this affects v4 stores as well. In v5 you get the shipping split up, but in v4 you get just the total dollar amount sent to PayPal. Neither one submits actual order details or quantities. Not good.
Check out either the module recommended above, or an also excellent PayPal module from Viking Coders (http://www.vikingcoders.com/store/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=VC&Product_Code=BROK_PAYPAL).
Thanks Vic, so glad to see there's a fix! I'll check it out.
Thanks, Remik...I'll check out your suggestion too!

Am using Miva 4.23, will either the of these 2 Paypal modules fix this problem and show the quantity ordered on paypal?
