View Full Version : Flat File Import Issue Workaround...

So I'm importing a large amount of products, (Paper), into my Miva store. Problem being, the naming convention we've used forever is to express the sizes as: 8"X10". Now, I've worked it out so that after I get it out of Excel I do a find/replace and get rid of the extraneous "s that Excel puts in. Problem is that Miva wants to put them back around the product name on import.
I've always been able to use quote marks when creating products directly into Miva. Is there a work around so that I won't have to modify each product name once in Miva.
Thanks.

Are you positive your import file doesn't have them around the name? And it's delimited by something like tabs or |?

Double check your flat file. MIVA does not add the extra quotes, Excel does.
So they have to exist in the file being saved out of Excel.

Excel adds them when I do a tab delimited, but not a CSV. Miva will see the tab delimited, but not the CSV. That is, my CSV for whatever reason.
I'll just bite it and pull them out of the tab delimited manually.
Thanks guys.

Export it as tab delimited, replace all the tabs with the pipe character, then replace all the extra quotes.
Save as a .txt file and import into Merchant. Be sure to change the delimited character to a pipe when Merchant asks.
Hello,
I have a similar situation. I understand the part about Exporting the Excel spreadsheet as tab delimited, replacing all the tabs with the pipe character. However, I am importing HTML content with quotes ("), which is part of the product description. What can I do about the Extra Quotes that Excel creates? Is there another approach when it comes to importing HTML?
Thank you in advance.
Hal.

Try this:
Just copy and paste the spreadsheet CELLS into a txt file (i.e. do not copy and paste the sheet - just the CELLS).
This should only copy your quote marks.
