On Wednesday this week, at two minutes and three seconds after 1:00 in the morning, the time and date will be 01:02:03 04/05/06.
This will never happen again.
.
Won't happen again, effectively... not again until 3006... :)

He he - close. This was a test. It will happen again in 2106. But most of us will not see it. Still pretty amazing to me. But I'm a numbers freak - always looking for patterns. I get excited when the odometer does something like 12345, or 54321. I had a Toyota where I got to see 123456 and I took a picture of it. I don't think my PT Cruiser will make it that far, the piece of junk. That's what I get for buying American! (does that count as an OT OT?)

Hey, I fully intend to be around in 2106! Hoveround chair, bionic arms and legs, head in a jar like in Futurama... and for bed, a cool cryogenic freezer like the ones sold here: http://www.sanyobiomedical.com/products/cryogenic/
Ha ha ha ha ha... :-)

And this is why a forum isn't that great.
This tidbit (it's still interesting, mind) was posted yesterday here (http://extranet.miva.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1428) but with a non-linear group, you don't see that and get parallel threads going.

Gah! My apologies, I didn't see that Chuck had beat me to it.
In defense of the forum, tho, it could have just as easily been duplicated in the list form - I saw it happen dozens of times.

No worries about apologies, and yes, it has happened before with good-natured ribbing and/or ignoring the extra one and going on about the topic as if nothing happened.
If I'd not seen the two announcements about the same topic in my in-box when I came in, I probably would not have put it together right away, though.

yea, but unlike a listserv, where we might have seen 20 of these messages posted before the poster read the other 19...we can even remove the duplicates<G>.

The sequential date happens on 01:02:03 on the 4th of May in the majority of countries, which don't use backwards American dates. Remember, days are subdivisions of months are subdivisions of years.
Actually, given the convention to write the date before the time, you can celebrate at a more civilised our on 04/05/06 at 07:08:09

Actually, the American version happens not only in the early morning, but in the afternoon. A more civilized time, too, although probably a time that the rest of the world is taking a nap from a hard 2 hours of morning work, preparing for the 2 hour afternoon shift. ;)

What are the levels of titles in this forum? Lite, Mini, etc.?

That is true for those who use 12-hour time. For those of us who use 24-hour time (military time for the droll, though so many more use it than the military) it happens once.... okay... happened.

At a guess, the number of posts you've made (contributions)?

Yes - I'm hoping they'll tell us what those numbers are - 100 posts, 500 posts, etc. I'm goal oriented. :)

The titles are based on the number of posts made. The exception being the moderators and partners. Moderators have custom titles and the partners have specific titles.
Thanks!

Don't you like surprises?
I'll post the list of titles, but probably not the actually post count to get there.

Btw, I'd strongly recommend completely removing the titles from the left column. The only effect it has, is that (some) people race for new ranks and higher scores, posting answers with zero informative content, replies of the type "me too", off-topic chatting, and other nonsense, increasing the the overall noise-to-signal ratio (that is already rather high anyway) significantly.
The title tells absolutely nothing about the real knowledge, skills or experience of the user, although it pretends to express his/her expert value. Newcomers are then under the impression that a "miva commander" knows necessarily more about Miva technologies than a "Mivite Lite", but the opposite may be often the truth.
From experience I know that "point collectors" usually sit on a forum all day long a chase simple questions (FAQ's) that they then quickly reply, get involved into every off-topic debate, and post often duplicate information, just to improve their score. On the other hand, many experts do not have time to watch the forum permanently, and usually answer only unresolved questions, hence their points are much lower, and they have only very basic ranks, although the value and the wisdom of their participation is often far above different "commanders" and other high ranks.
This is true in every forum I participated, and although this one is young, it won't be different as long as the titles remain displayed. The ranks are simply confusing, trigger noise, and should be abolished. Finally, there is the number of posts for showing user's activity, and the "reputation power" (green scale) that expresses the wisdom of the respective user much better.

Excellent points, Ivo. I agree. And Julie can put her "title" of "allied supreme super duper" in her avatar, then. ;)
Or, maybe partners and staff can have "titles," but others just say "User" or some other generic term.

Agreed, (although not sure specifically what Julie was pointing out)...but, if 15+ years of email has taught me...sarcasm and humor don't travel well via email or forums. We should refrain from making even "humourous" jibes at nationalities, ethnicities, music tastes, etc...save that type of humour for self-deprecation and sports teams<G>.

Let's try to keep things civil, please.I am sorry if my comments offended someone. When writing it, I did not speak about anyone here, I spoke about my experience from other forums. Generally, titles based on the number of posts are a very bad idea. Titles for administrators, moderators, partners, and developers are OK. They should remain clear and simple though. In such way they are informative much more than titles giving the impression we are in the forum of Star Trek fans, but having no informative value about the role the user actually plays at Miva Co or in the community. Adding titles based only on the number of posts makes absolutely no sense, and it has only very inconvenient negative effects. Such forums very often end over-bloated with chatter, spam, and off-topic posts.

[QUOTE=Random Confusion]And this is why a forum isn't that great.
I'm afraid I'm going to have to agree - while I get email letting me know about almost every thread that is being posted - receiving just the topic is not enough information to pique my interest to stop what I'm doing and go over to the forum and weed through the posts.
Sigh....:(

Actually, I will say that's all my fault regarding moderator titles.
Initially they were done as a joke on the Monday when we opened up the Off-Topic and Test forum. They have always been on my list to change, but while they'll just take a few minutes to change, I was working on other things. Again, they were never intended to last this long. (At least my title and Mark's).
In the scheme of things regarding the forums, changing a few titles fell down the "to-do list" in regards of priority.
