We added a new item to our miva store and added an attribute to it for size. Now when you click on the item you get the following message
Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.
Please contact the server administrator, webmaster@fitnessdestination.com and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error. More information about this error may be available in the server error log.
We have other items in our store that use attributes and now they are giving the same message. Anyone know if this is a Miva problem or a configuration problem.

Try packing the store...most likely you will see a "duplicate" key error message.
In fact, WHENEVER you get a fatal error, or any error for that matter, the first step in troubleshooting should be to Pack the Store.

Tried packing the store, but that didn't help

And no error message? Do you have a URL of a product that has an attribute?

Which product is causing the problem?
A link to the store is always helpful.

That is a link to your static HTML page, not your store.
There is nothing wrong with the product, so it has to be in your HTML.
http://www.fitnessdestination.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Store_Code=FD&Screen=ORDLOGN&ScreenStatus=1
works just fine.
Why duplicate effort in static pages?

Why duplicate effort in static pages?
We were using a different shopping cart before Miva and had optimized the static pages for search engines. When we switched to Miva the owner did not want to eliminate the static site.

Well, for one thing...you will need to add Attributes=Yes to the "Order Link" but that's not what is causing the problem...
however, got a conference call scheduled...so hopefully Vic will figure this out...

You just wind up duplicating your efforts, especially with adding new product, or editing exsitng product.
SEO can be duplicated within the Merchant store, provided you add a couple modules to customize display.
In any case, the problem lies in the static page and something the server doesnt like. I'd suggest reviewing your webserver's error log for what the cause of the error is.

How could the static page be causing the problem? I get this error when I click on the product link out of my Miva store.

We have top 10 listing on several keywords and they are terrified of losing that.

That is dictated by content.
As long as the content remains unchanged, there should not be an impact on SEO.

So going back to the pack question...did any pack errors occur? And are you sure you are using the Store Pack function and not the Domain Pack? Also, what happens when you remove the attribute, can you see the product in Merchant? Lastly, do you have any other 3rd party modules that might be effecting the attribute display?

I deleted expired shopping carts, packed the domain and store just as I do on a regular basis. No pack errors. If I remove the attritute, everything's fine. We have several 3rd party modules installed, but I don't know what would cause the problem. And we haven't installed any new ones lately and that item's attributes worked fine before. I'm gonna call our web host and see if there's a problem with them.

Its obviously not a problem with the product itself.
You can go directly to the product and add it to basket, even following the form submit action in the static HTML without an error.
The issue is something the server doesnt like that is only present in the static page.

There is definately something wrong.
I see you are using OpenUI, are you using any tokens on the product page?
When I circumvent the page display itself, with:
http://www.fitnessdestination.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Action=ADPR&Product_Code=DFSWHITE&Quantity=1&Attributes=Yes&Screen=BASK
I get this error:
Error Code: MER-MMU-00010
Description: Error opening 'Merchant2/00000002/mmui/mmuistor.dbf': No such file or directory

Maybe not.
I get the 500 error right in the store.
I searched for DFSWHITE:
http://www.fitnessdestination.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Store_Code=FD&Screen=SRCH&Search=DFSWHITE
If you try the same thing, what happenss after you click the product link?
What if you search for DFSBLACK?
I can't look at the products or add them to the basket.
Can you?
