View Full Version : Upgrade to MM5 From MM4 on Different Servers?

Howdy,

I have been asked to help move someone's MM version 4 store to another host that has MM version 5 installed. At the moment, the store owner (or myself) does not have Admin access to any config on the existing MM4 store. The only thing we can see when logging in is the customers and orders information.

Assuming the store owner (and myself) can have their admin permissions set to be able to access the store configuration settings, my question is would it be somehow possible to export settings and data in the existing MM4 store and use these to set up the MM5 store on the new host? My concern is that we can export store layouts/template settings, categories/products, etc. from the old store and import them into the new MM5 store on the new host. The goal is to not have to rebuild the store from scratch if at all possible. I have limited experience with using MM5 (set up one small MM5 store for another client).

Thanks.

Are you running OpenUI or MMUI in the existing store?

If you are running MMUI, simply install and run the upgrade.mvc for MM5 on it and download the setup.xml or provision.xml file created.

Copy that over to the new MM5 server and follow the docs for provisioning.

If its an OpenUI store, you're out of luck on the store settings and can only export the customers, products, and categories. None of the store settings will transfer.

On a related note, has anyone seen a case where an export from 4 (4.13 to be exact) cause oddities such a missing cat/prod assignments, missing attribitue/options settings? Not all mind you, just a large number.

Don't know, I'm not the current admin for the existing store. Any way to find out?

I'm not sure that will be possible to do. It would require cooperation from the existing host/site administrator and I'm not sure how cooperative they will be. I'm out of the loop in dealings with the existing site admin and the host. The owner isn't happy with the existing situation and wants me to take over and set everything up with a new/different host.

Copy that over to the new MM5 server and follow the docs for provisioning.

Given that the above may be possible, the new store site will be an add-on hosted application (through Hostmysite.com). I can ask, but I don't know if I will have direct access to the server where MM5 is installed to do that. The host's tech support might have to do it for me, I'll ask.

Thanks!
