View Full Version : How Do You Place Naviagation Links To Other Pages Outside Of Ssl..
How do you place the navigation links outside of the SSL pages?
For example...i want to have these links on other pages in my website outside of the SSL site. Example would be on the home page of my website. This is so users can navigate throughout the website on custom pages I have created outside of MIVA, but I want the customers to be able to view their baskets, checkout from any page on the site. Would these links know the sessionID? Thank you

Instead of going through all the work to create static pages that are not going to be able pass the session id or show basket contents, why not build your static pages into Merchant and let it do what its designed to do? Dynamically create the product and category content dynamically?

So Vic, I have a question related to this. We use static .shtml pages for our home page and category pages. Besides obvious reasons for wanting complete control over the look and feel of these page, we mostly do it for SEO purposes. In this case, if someone adds a product to their cart, then hits for instance our Bridal Jewelry page which is not located within miva, will it cause some users problems.
As I sit here and test it myself, we're good to go. I can add an item to my cart, leave the miva pages and go back to our category or home page and then go back in, add another item, checkout and everything.

Personally I think that is a waste of time and money to the client to have to pay for all the extra pages to be designed. Plus it duplicates the efforts of the designer when changes need to be made. We often see this when the designer is unfamiliar or not very knowledgable with MIVA Merchant.
And yes, this can cause problems too. Especially if the proper P3P headers are not being served by the web server.

Vic, Thanks for the reply. This website is actually designed and operated by us. We never do this for our clients, but it is necessary for us because of the extent of our SEO campaign. We've found with this website that losing some of the automation is well worth the effort. However, my fear is that it could also hurt our conversion rates if some visitors are having problems.

Especially with the flexibility of having complete control of the pages in MM5, static pages aren't needed.
Even with MM4 and OpenUI, they arent needed.
Of course using something like Merchant Optimizer (http://www.mivacentral.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=m&Product_Code=PM-OPTMIZE5&ref=wpaw) is a great idea for performance increase, but static pages arent needed for SEO at all.
