To make the boards more useful, be sure to set your forum options to threaded (or hybrid) and please, please, respond to posts from the repsonse, not your post. Otherwise, its almost impossible to follow. If you do that, you don't need to include the quote.

Suggestion to forum gods...can you make threaded the default?

Hi Bruce,

I'm actually at home now (I know, unbelieveable, I don't stay at work all night :D), but when I get in the morning, I'll do that. And if I forget? Just bother me until I remember.

I personally hate the threaded view and if it is switched to threaded I will be switching back. You can't make everyone happy. ;)

I wouldn't mind the threaded view so much if there weren't so much wasted space. I'm not sure why the authors of vbulletin decided each post in the thread requires such a massive amount of space around it. I don't see more than four posts in the thread window so that makes it annoying, I just go with regular linear view.

I think the best advice here is that if you're responding to someone's specific statement, QUOTE it. It's that simple.

I've been testing the various views etc. There seems to be a higher load time with the threaded view and the hybrid view. At least that's what I noticed from my computer at home. (Remember, cruddy DSL connection.)

I'm not adverse to the hybrid, but what I am concerned about is the load time and complaints that may surface with the change.

Let me talk about it some more with some people here and by all means throw in your opinions as well.

Thanks!

Very true, but i think it would help those that are not as familair with forums post in a manner others can track. Kind of like, "if you know how to change it, you don't need the threaded views"

Also agree with david on the spacing issue. Hopefully, the other David (who is handling the layout) can tighten up the display. Still way too much dead space....and the fonts are too large.
