Flat fee OR Price-based Shipping

Ok, I've read through as many relevant threads as I could find. I even purchased Wieland's Miscellaneous Fee module thinking it was going to solve my problem. However, for what I need to do, it turns out it does little more than what I had accomplished by adding a fee to the price based shipping charge.

Here's what I need to do:
Shipping charges for most items in the store are computed based on a price table and this works fine. However, a few store items require a flat fee, IGNORING the price-based charge.

I can specify the flat fee using the Miscellaneous Fee module, but how do I then disable the Price-based computations for that product?

Currently, you cannot. I know of no module that will exclude a specific item from shipping.

I'll have to look, but perhaps one of the free shipping modules will allow you to assign free shipping to an item then the Misc Fee module can handle its charges.

I believe most of the viking gateway modules allow this...and at least some of weiland's...

Use the Minimum or Subtotal Shipping by World Zone at

in concert with the Miscellaneous Fee module which you already have. You can specify certain products which incur no shipping because their cost is not added to the subtotal for the shipping calculation. They are still in the order subtotal. But when the shipping module calculates shipping based on subtotal, it ignores their contribution to that subtotal. This module then replaces the built in price table shipping but does the rest of the calculation just like the price table shipping does. It also has ship to location variation capability.
