buy item A, get item B free...?

looking (without module, if possible, but i'm guessing it's not) to setup a buy A item, get item B free. but if B is purchased seperatly, it's $x.xx.

any help? TIA!!

Without a module there's only a few ways to do this, but it's up to you if any are ideal:

1. Use an attribute on product A. Make it a checkbox to add product B for free.

2. Since the Upsell (v4 and lower) cannot offer something free unless it's offered to all orders, you could set B as an upsell for $0.01 - not free, but just a penny.

3. If you already use a coupon module, offer a coupon that says if A and B are both ordered, take the price of B off the order.
