View Full Version : Synchro Problem with Inventory Item Names.

I'm a website designer who recently took on the task of setting up a Quickbooks integrated website. We choose the MM5 & Miva Synch solution. So far everything is working great except the Miva Synchro part.

I tried to give it due diligence and read all the documentation to ensure that things would work together. Nothing is that easy it seems.

The products aren't Synching it seems because the individual item names aren't unique. If you are familiar with QuickBooks (which I'm not that familiar with) Inventory Items are setup under Categories & Subcategories. When exporting this list to a flat file it looks like cat1:subcat1:subcat2:ItemName. My client uses this as the company item name/number. This also imports into MM5 as the product name/number. Synchro however only considers the ItemName as the name (probably as it should). Well there are multiple items with the same name/number in the item list. For example PS:01:20:0001 and PS:01:30:0001 are considered different product numbers when looking at the flat file but Synchro only looks at the 0001.

I'm looking for suggestions on how to handle this. I will gladly provide any additional information that might be helpful.

Thanks in advance,

D. Moore

Ok how bout this..

I setup the product codes in a flat file before getting Miva Syncro and I set the codes up to emulate the PS:01:20:0001 naming scheme to PS-01-20-0001. Miva Syncro uses the Product Code to synch with the QuckBooks Item name by default. These do not match up. Is it possible to use one of Quickbook?s custom fields and name it CODE then entering the Miva Product Code there and then mapping that field to the Miva Product Code?

The only other solution I see is to actually rename the Quickbook Items which will cause a whole lot more headaches.

Hey there,

Try the field mapping option in MIVA Synchro. By changing which fields in QB are synched to fields in MM, you should be able to change what MIVA Synchro uses to reference products.

More info on the field mapping is on page 17 of the MIVA Sychro guide: http://smallbusiness.miva.com/support/docs/synchro/SynchroGuide160.pdf

I have tried a few different variation but it seems to want that CODE to be mapped to a similar value. I am going to try defining a custom field in Quickbooks to put the code in and try that. Any other information is still appreciated.

Looks like I'm going to hafta have the client rename thier inventory items. Which turns out that it will be as simple as editing the item name individually on the Quickbooks "Edit Item" screen. The bad part is that there are 2700+ items.
