During the set up process of MivaPayment through the MivaMerchant admin's Payment wizard, everything is fine until the final confirmation screen. Clicking the "finish" button gives me an error about how the field "customer_state" is required.

During the set up process I selected "Outside US" as I live in Canada. I typed in the province I live in in the appropriate field. As a result I have no way whatsoever of completing the sign up process.

Emailing support has produced nothing. Calling customer service resulted in a conversation with someone who didn't really seem to know what I was talking about.

Whether this bug is fixed or not doesn't matter to me anymore as after the customer support debacle, I have decided to look elsewhere for my payment services. All the same, I thought I would bring it to the attention of Miva.

If you called MIVA's toll-free support number, you were likely transferred to their call center in India - where they indeed wouldn't have a clue what your question was about. Look up MIVA's San Diego number and call that instead. Even though they don't have support staff here anymore, this is a MIVA service (rebranded, but still...) and their in-house developers should be able to assist you with this.

On the other hand - I am not 100% if the MIVA Payment module would even work for you in Canada, as I believe it's a service run by a US based institution and they only handle charges in US currency. Unless you have established presence in the US or a financial backing in the US, most such companies will not work with out of country merchant accounts, gateways, etc. You may want to call MIVA sales (in San Diego) and sort this out first, before you spend any time on the technical issues you may be experiencing.

You can't sign up for MIVA Payment if you do not have a credit card issued from a US address. MIVA Payment will work with Canadian banks, but you can't sign up with a Canadian address. This has been a bug since the release of MIVA Payment several years ago.
