How to limit products purchased

I have a site that wants to make a sale available to all visitors, but limit it to two per order. Is there a way to limit how many products a customer can purchase?

You could do this with some creative use of Javascript and conditionals.

Test in your page to see if the maximum quantity is in the basket already and pop up an alert asking the customer to reduce the number of items to continue shopping.

Weiland had a module available for MM4 for enforcing this, but I do not believe it is available for MM5 yet.
