Every experienced miva user knows that miva search pretty much is extremely limited and not that functional.

Does anyone have any recommendations as to search services or scripts?

I've heard there are outside paid services that are by subscription who are leaders in this area ...

I would like search that is keyword relevant as far as title first, then descriptions ... and displays product images (like miva does) in the search results. Advanced search features would not be bad either. Something as good as google but for miva would be great.

It does not have to be a miva specific module if there are services out there that can integrate with my pages.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

We recommend Searchspring check them out http://www.mivamerchant.com/partners/ix_oldsys.mv?action=screen&xid=member5

You can see it in action on www.mivacentral.com

Excellent. The exact type of thing I am looking for.

Do you know how they compare to someone like nextopia?

And other options I should look at?

Thank you,

If you're looking for a service they're in the same category as Nextopia but Searchspring was developed with Miva Merchant in mind.

If you're looking for a module I would search for search on Miva Central and look at Emporium Plus Power Search module.

Thanks! I'm pretty sure I'm gonna go with Searchspring. It looks like it may be product feed driven, which would be perfect for me.

Going to test-drive a demo of it.

Hi,

Does the built in miva search search category names? The search function on the store I'm working on doesn't seem to work. My customer named all of her products with children's name: "Lily", "Amy", "Max" etc.. they don't have descriptions (handmade trash barrels) but they are broken down into categories: "Baby", "Animals", "Traditional" etc... If you search for "Baby" the search comes back with "no products matched your search criteria" - there are bunches of products listed in the "Baby" category.

I'm wondering how the search works - what it searches. Just product name?

Thanks for any help on this.

It searches the product name, description, code, etc. Since there is category navigation on the left, you could click on "baby" link and it would list all the products in the category.

I am shocked by how many people type a category name in the search box instead of simply clicking on a category from the category tree or the category images/buttons or links on the Home Page.

We have been putting together an initial integration at our dev site with the search mod from Vikingcoders named Focus (http://www.vikingcoders.com/store/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=VC_FOCUS5&Category_Code=5MODS&Product_Count=10)
I've pretty impressed so far mainly by the speed of the results.

It immediately covered a major search deficiency of merchant that cannot discern text such red vs colored without setting up custom keywords fields etc (headache).

Emporium plus has a local running module that you can do quite a bit with although still plagued by the aforementioned limitation.
Power Search (http://www.emporiumplus.com/merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=wcw&Product_Code=1AA00058&Category_Code=1AA)

My dev Demo Power Search (http://beta.handmade-paper.us/page/CPO/SRCH) (customization high)
My dev demo on Viking's Focus (http://beta.handmade-paper.us/page/CPO/FOCUS) (customization almost none yet)
