Hi there,

My ISP (Comcast) has recently blocked port 25 which has caused problems with sending email with Miva Mia. Have you guys experienced this type of problem before and did you find a work around?

Cybrhost suggested that I try translating the blocked port to a working alternative port through my router, but I'm not sure if this is possible to setup for outbound traffic.

Best regards,

What are you using as the SMTP server? When ISPs (increasingly commonly) block port 25, they do so in a way that allows connection to their own SMTP server(s) but blocks any attempt to connect to a different SMTP server. So problems are usually experienced by people who own a hosted domain and try to use mail.domain as their SMTP server.

Solutions: either reconfigure to use the COMcast SMTP server (sorry, I have no idea how to do that or whether it is a Mia setting or the local copy of sendmail (or equivalent).

or: contact the host of the SMTP server you are currently using to see if they have opened any other ports for SMTP connections. e.g. The hosting company I use has opened port 2525, which is not blocked by any local ISPs

Hi Richard,

I'll use either my ISP's or business domain, which have alternative ports that are configurable with most email client apps. Since port 25 is blocked, none of these smtp servers will work with Miva Mia. Since Mia doesn't support a way to configure alternative ports besides port 25, I've been looking for other work arounds.

Trying to find the easiest solution, I've been looking at possibly translating the port with a router or perhaps setting up my own local email server for testing purposes with Miva Mia.

Best regards,
