Hello guys, I would like to know what would be the best way to setup a test server, my store is getting ready to roll out a new theme/layout with some new modules and I would like to test the setup, layout and over all look before uploading this to our live store.

I would like to run it on win2000 that?s what we are running as our offline testing box. I was not sure what to use Empresa or Mia we are new to both and I was not to sure what the difference was they looked close to the same thing after reading the overview of both.

Our live store is running Miva 4.24 so that?s my next question it looks like Empresa and Mia are the servers that run Miva is there a free version of Miva that we can use on our testing server?

Thats exactly what MIVA Mia is.

A free dev tool to run locally. Just download your /Merchant2 and /mivadata directory structures to your local PC.

Ok when I got to install Miva it asks for the Miva Merchant License Number is there a default testing number you enter or do I need to enter our main License number and if I enter our number again will that cancel our License with Miva?

First lets clarify:

MIVA is a company, Mia and Merchant are software.

When you install Mia, its asking for a license number? You should have received it in email when you registered to download Mia.

It should not ask for your Merchant store license number if you've properly downloaded your stores /Merchant2 or /mm5 directories and your mivadata directories.
