View Full Version : Delete Attributes

Good morning, all.
I uploaded my attribute flat file yesterday morning. I then deleted each of my attributes one by one and edited that flat file. Now, when I upload that new flat file, checking overwrite, the same information from that original file appears.
My question is this...
Would deleting my attributes data file on the server do the trick to clean it out and start fresh?
If so, what files should I look for to delete?
Thanks again for everyone's continued help!

This depends... if you deleted the attributes on the server itself, then new ones would be created. If you only removed them from the flat file, that won't remove them from the store.
Which module are you using? The one by Emporium Plus has a DELETE command you can put in the file to delete any attributes.

I am using the module form Emporium Plus and I can't say enough wonderful things about them and their product! They have provided wonderful support and have saved me many hours of my time. Kudos to Emporium Plus!
I did use the delete function to erase all of the attributes. It seems to me almost like they're stored in memory. Doesn't make any sense, I know. But after the delete, I uploaded the revised flat file, many of the items staying the same and others with completely different info. When they appear on my store, the info is again the same as it originally was in my first upload for any attribute or option that shares the original code.

Did you make sure to pack your store's data after deleting? You should always do that to keep your store in good shape. That might be the problem here, but possibly not. But give that a shot if you haven't already.

Thank you for your help! I will definitely remember to pack the store next time!
In the mean time, is there a way to delete the attributes all at once (via deleting data files on the server) rather than going through my products and deleting the attributes one at a time? 3000 products! Agh!

You should be able to just use that flat file. My guess is either a mistake in the formatting of the file or a packing problem. I've used that module many times to delete them and it works just fine.

I think I got it now. Thanks again!
Emporium Plus has emailed me to alert me to problems with my formatting.
Their message to me:
---------------------------
If you are using my attribute import, you don't delete them one by one at the product edit screen. You insert a line just before the new ones for the product. Let's say you want to replace the attributes in product ABC with new ones, it would look like this.
D|ABC
A|ABC|PT|select|Printing turnaround|0|0|1
O|ABC|PT|35|3 - 5 days (standard)|0|0|1
O|ABC|PT|23|2 - 3 days (+$25)|25|25|0
O|ABC|PT|1|Same day service (+$75)|75|75|0
Course you would have all the attributes and options you wanted to change in the flat file, not just this one product.
Do not delete a database to "start fresh" or your store will be dead in the water.

Thanks again for your help!
