Is there a way to have miva only allow, say 3 or 5 attempts at checkout, then shut off that IP address ? What security plugins or features are out there ?

This would be a much-desired feature! Something like it existed for Miva 4. We've been manually disabling IP addresses where multiple card number testing originates. But now the attempts are originating in the US.

We'd definitely like to see this from Miva or a module designer. I've heard authorizenet and Miva Payment have a related capability, but we'd rather not switch payment gateways.

It's going to become a "must" as fraud is happening more and more often. Authorize.net has a fraud protection suite that just tells you the IP address .. but for customers this doesn't help them much. Miva should have some settings to try and stop the problem before it gets to the payment gateway. Like a minimum number or CC attempts or anything for that matter.
