I cannot locate where one selects the option to recover basket numbers after deleting abandoned baskets. The help file still refers to it as an option during the deletion process but I do not see it.
I have been watching my order numbers and I am acquiring gaps that I would like to recover.

You *REALLY* do not want to do that (and hence why the option has been removed in the latest Miva Merchant). Recovering order numbers means that some clients may get stuck with the 'same' basket ID as another client who has abandoned their cart - hence the gaps. Getting the same basket ID has the potential of displaying one person's basket contents on another client's visit - definitely not something you want to end up with, it's a major privacy/security concern. Gaps in orders are perfectly normal in online e-commerce where a percentage of your visitors will add something to their cart but will never check out.
