Any tips for renumbering a large number of products within a category? It looks impossible to move an item without renumbering every product within a category. The process is very clumsy and if a number is accidentally repeated, the entire numbering operation is aborted. The nudge arrows were time-consuming, but I'm wishing I had them back. Am I missing something?

Well if you only change one number at a time and press enter (not update) it moves it to that spot in the overall scheme. So for example even if you're only looking at products 101-120 on your page and you change number 112 to number 1 and press enter, it will move that product to number 1 and reorder everything automatically.

Seems to work OK if you press "Enter," but if you click "Update," you get the message "Product '_' cannot have the new order value of '_' because it's the current value of product '_' which has not changed." Thanks for enlightening me about the enter key.

Rick, the "See what's new" PDF says clicking Update should also do that, but it doesn't. If you just update the one item the Update button says that spot is already filled.

You can also re-sort orders quickly by assigning a new number to any order and clicking the Update button or pressing enter. This will move a specified order into a new position on the list and the order that was previously in that position will then move down one position, with all the orders that follow it reordered accordingly.

That's a mistake in our docs, we'll get it fixed right away. Thanks for pointing that out.

I'm trying to reorder 20 products within a category. With the "Show" box clicked, I can successfully change the place of one item by changing an item's number and pressing "Enter." With subsequent items, the products do not reorder correctly. The only way that I can get them in the correct order is to manually assign a number to each and every item, being careful not to duplicate a number, then click "Update." Is anyone else having trouble?

That's how it's supposed to work.
Rick,
Sorry I mistakenly had it on ALL not Assigned in the category edit.
My question is how does this order affect it vs editing under the Product screen?

There is a problem in there somewhere and I can't pin it down, but it seems to have a mind of its own at times and re-sorts itself (looks like code ascending?) when it's not supposed to. I can get the sort order almost right, then try to move one product and Miva reorders everything to its own liking and the product sort within a category is totally jumbled. Has anybody spent some time trying to reorder a large category by moving more than a few products? I am using a Firefox browser on a Mac. Your help is greatly appreciated.
I may have a bent horseshoe on this but I think Miva only has global sequencing. It's doesn't appear to have category-specific sub-sequencing.
Sounds like a feature request. We've had lots of folks ask how to do this.
Yes, it does. Go to the category. Click products. Click assigned. Click show. You'll see the order listed 1, 2, 3, 4 etc. The problem is you have to move a bunch of numbers around if you are moving many. With my module sort categories and products it is easier. It has the same category specific sorting. But instead of 1, 2, 3, 4 you will see 2000, 2005, 2010, 2015 etc. It skips 5 at a time so you have space between each to move others in. That way when you update there are no duplicates and you don't have to move everything around.

Ah, yes, and we have a problem there, as we are unable to sort our entire approx. 3,000 product inventory:
